Revolve
Create 3D shapes by revolving a 2D profile around an axis
Overview
The Revolve tool creates rotationally symmetric 3D shapes by spinning a 2D profile around an axis. Perfect for vases, bowls, cups, wheels, knobs, and any shape with circular symmetry. Available through natural language only.
Parameters
| Parameter | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Profile Shape | Shape of the 2D profile to revolve | rectangle |
| Profile Width | Width of the profile (radial direction) | 0.5 in |
| Profile Height | Height of the profile (along axis) | 1.0 in |
| Axis | Axis to revolve around | Y |
| Angle | Angle of revolution in degrees (360 for full rotation) | 360° |
How to Use
1
Describe the shape
Tell the AI what rotationally symmetric shape you want to create.
2
Specify dimensions
Include the profile dimensions and overall size.
3
Mention the axis (optional)
Specify which axis to revolve around if not vertical.
Natural Language Alternatives
Instead of using the tool, you can type these commands:
Create a vase 6 inches tall with a 3 inch diameter openingMake a bowl with 4 inch diameter and 2 inch depthRevolve a rectangle to create a cylinder 2 inches tallCreate a wheel with spokes
Tips
- Revolve is ideal for any shape with circular symmetry
- Use partial angles (less than 360°) for pie-slice shapes
- Combine with other operations like holes for more complex parts
