Extrude
Push or pull faces or sketches to add or remove material
Keyboard shortcut: E
Overview
The Extrude tool creates 3D geometry by pushing or pulling a face or sketch profile. You can add material (boss) or remove material (cut), with options for symmetric extrusion, draft angles, and corner radii.
Parameters
| Parameter | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Source | What to extrude | Face |
| Direction | Add material (+) or cut material (−) | Add |
| Distance | How far to extrude | 0.5 in |
| Symmetric | Extrude equally in both directions from the source | Off |
| Inward | Extrude into the object (for cuts) | Off |
| Draft Angle | Taper the walls (0-15 degrees) | 0° |
| Corner Radius | Round the corners (sketch source only) | 0 in |
How to Use
1
Select source
Click a face on your model, or choose a sketch from the dropdown.
2
Choose direction
Click Add (+) to add material or Cut (−) to remove material.
3
Set distance
Enter the extrusion distance or select from standard sizes.
4
Optional: Enable symmetric
Check Symmetric to extrude equally in both directions.
5
Optional: Add draft
Enter a draft angle to taper the walls.
6
Apply
Click Apply or press Enter to create the extrusion.
Natural Language Alternatives
Instead of using the tool, you can type these commands:
Extrude the top face 0.5 inchesCut 0.25 inches into Face 3Extrude the sketch 1 inch with a 5 degree draftExtrude symmetrically 0.5 inches both directions
Tips
- Use symmetric extrusion to center the result on the source plane
- Draft angles are useful for parts that need to be removed from molds
- Corner radius only applies when extruding sketches, not faces
