General
What is PartWork AI?
PartWork AI is an AI-powered CAD tool that lets you create 3D parts by describing them in plain English. No CAD experience required.
Do I need CAD experience?
No. If you can describe what you want, you can use PartWork AI. CAD terminology helps but isn't required.
Can I use it commercially?
Yes. Parts you create are yours to use however you like, including for commercial projects.
Troubleshooting
Why did my part fail to generate?
Common causes: conflicting dimensions, impossible geometry, or overly complex requests. Try simplifying your prompt or breaking it into steps.
What does "invalid geometry" mean?
The requested shape can't exist in 3D space (self-intersecting surfaces, overlapping features). Check that your dimensions make sense and features don't conflict.
My part looks different than expected
Be more specific. If something is wrong, describe what needs to change: "make the holes closer to the edge" or "the plate should be horizontal".
Can I undo changes?
Yes. Click any previous message in the chat to see the part at that point. Click "Restore this version" to go back.
Limits & Capabilities
What are the size limits?
No hard limit on part size, but PartWork AI works best with typical mechanical part dimensions (fractions of an inch to several feet).
How accurate are dimensions?
Exact. The geometry engine uses double-precision floating point. Dimensions are accurate to many decimal places.
What if I run out of generations?
Daily limits reset at midnight UTC. Create a registered account for higher limits.
Files
What file formats can I import?
STEP, IGES, BREP, and DXF. STEP is recommended for best results.
What export formats are available?
STEP (for CNC/CAD), STL (for 3D printing), and 3MF (modern 3D printing format).
Is my data secure?
Yes. Parts are stored securely in the cloud (registered) or locally in your browser (guest). We don't share your designs.
